MUMBAI, INDIA: CDMA major Reliance Communications has launched a color handset – Classic 732 - priced at Rs 999.

Priced much below most of the monochrome handsets in the country, the new phone is also cheaper than the existing color handsets.

At present, color handsets are available at around Rs 1,500-2,000 crore, Reliance Communications president (personal business) S P Shukla told reporters here today.

"There are no strings attached and this is a completely transparent deal," he added.

The Classic 732 has features like 500x3 phonebook, SMS on call reject, speakerphone and others that most other entry-level color phones do not have, Shukla added.

Reliance Communications had earlier launched Classic monochrome handsets at Rs 777 ($20), resulting in a paradigm shift in the affordability levels of entry level, feature-rich handset for the Indian consumer.

The Classic range of handsets includes Color-FM series, color display and monochrome handsets with color film display and are supported by an extensive nationwide after sales service network.

Meanwhile, the company has sold over one crore of its classic range of handsets. This is due to the remarkable quality of the handsets and the robust network of the company, Shukla said.
