Admitting that the political set-up has failed in many ways in implementing development schemes, Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal on Saturday asked young scientists to come up with solutions to ensure better delivery systems for projects like NREGA.
In an interaction with young scientists from across the country, Sibal urged them to find ways and means to reach people who were deprived of development programmes.
"As India is the torchbearer of change in the world, our scientists should find solutions to reach the people through science and technology, who cannot be reached by the political establishment," he said.
Noting that the political establishment has failed in many aspects when it came to implementing programmes and schemes, Sibal said this can be achieved only through the intervention of science and technology.
The Minister said there should be ways to ensure implementation of programmes such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and ensure transparency in their delivery.
"There are so many schemes in our country and funds too... but how to ensure that they are implemented and there is transparency...science and technology should come in here...," he said.
Science should be connected with larger issues that touch the common man, Sibal said.
Sibal also urged the young minds to come up with ideas to help the farmers in the country by providing useful information to them which would help in getting high yields.
