According to reports, Microsoft has confirmed that its next version of Windows will be available in 2010.
Windows 7 will succeed Windows Vista, with Microsoft explaining that it had always scheduled its next operating system launch for three years after Vista was launched to consumers. That was January last year.
In fairness, Microsoft had already stated this last year, though some commentators thought that Windows 7 could land as early as 2009. In reality, when do operating systems arrive on time? Heck, even Apple let the last one slip.
Interestingly (if you like operating system news, that is) some believe that Apple is due to launch the successor to Leopard at around the same time. By the year 2010, hopefully, the "yawn-fest" that is the battle of desktop operating systems will have been replaced by much more exciting goings on in the mobile and web spaces.
