NEW DELHI, INDIA: Public sector telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has welcomed Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in India and said it is open to the idea of partnering with other companies to provide better infrastructure.
SD Saxena, director, Finance, BSNL, told cyberMedia News: "BSNL welcomes MVNO move. We are waiting for the government's approval. We would be happy to align with other companies. This would help penetrating deeper into rural areas."
"MVNO is a marketing arm. Partnering with other companies enable us to utilize the spare capacity to the maximum and to provide better infrastructure to the users," he added.
Commenting about the possibility of partnering with other companies, Saxena said, "We are not in talks with any, but we would welcome any discussion."
Department of Telecom (DoT) has not yet approved the Tata-Virgin deal but is open to the idea of considering MVNO in India.
GSM operators have raised objection to the Tata-Virgin deal launched in Mumbai last Sunday.
Siddhartha Behura, secretary, DoT, said that the government is open to the idea of MVNOs.
"We will consider it once the policy on MVNO is announced. However, currently there are no policies in this regard."
