BANGALORE, INDIA: Google India today announced the winners of the first 'Google India Women in Engineering Award' recognizing and rewarding deserving women students in Computer Science to inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.

A release from Google said that this program is in tune with the Web major's aspiration to be an organization that reflects the globally diverse audience that its search engine and tools serve.

Google received 245 applications from female undergraduate, graduate and PhD students across India.

The winners, selected on the basis of their academic background and demonstrated qualities of leadership, will each receive an award of Rs 75000.
